Late Dr. Mrs. Maida Raja the Founder / President of the Christ Faith Home for Children (NGO), fondly called “Mummy” is a native of Chennai. She was born on 26th September 1951 as the 7th child in a moderate family with 11 children.  She was an average student at school and completed her bachelors. She then was married to her husband Late. Sivalingaraja @ Daniel Raja and was blessed to two children. She faced trials and tribulations in her own family and decided to end her life and was in the death bed for 21 days in a hospital but that isn’t God’s plan for her life and gave her life back. It was on a rainy night in 1986 God opened the service door by bringing a young woman a victim domestic violence to her doorsteps who ran away from her home in an attempt to protect herself and her child from the abuse of her alcoholic husband. Listening to her pathetic stories Dr. Mrs. Maida Raja could feel the pain as she herself went through the similar situation and gave shelter that night. Much to the founder’s shock the next day the women was found missing leaving behind her infant daughter. The dilemma of that precious baby and the thought of the number of infants abandoned and the women going through domestic violence was the stimulus behind what is now known as Christ Faith Home for Children.

The below verse from the holy bible from Mathew 25: 35 – 40 encouraged her to involve into this mission. ‘For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited me in; I was naked, and you clothed me; …. then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, and feed you… “the king will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of mine, even the least of them, you did it to me.’

With the inspiration from the above verse and with the zeal to help the unprivileged people in the society and a narrowed view to meet the needs of the orphaned and abandoned children, destitute and deserted women and to show the love of God by holding, feeding, educating, caring for and rescuing them from the evil of their circumstances “Christ Faith home for Children” was founded by Mrs. Maida Raja & her beloved husband late Mr. Sivalingaraja @ Daniel Raja in 1986. Later Many like-minded associated together in these noble cause and the society was formed. Over time the CFHC has expanded to what it is now. A change in society can be brought only by having a clear vision, and Dr. Maidaraja had this vision of developing a society where each person can be independent and can ‘Catch one fish a day’ and have permanent relief from their situation. It urges the inmates to push themselves forward and to constantly have faith in God and believe in them, so that one day they will be able to provide for themselves. Her efforts gave new and wholesome lives to thousands of orphans and destitute women who are being rehabilitated every year. The founder, the visionary Dr. Mrs. Maida Raja, has committed her life to the care and support of the less fortunate of our society, reflecting God’s grace and love through her very life.

With the strength of the Almighty God Dr.Maida Raja had been doing this exemplary service with deep perseverance and humane vow for the past 3 decades in spite of financial quandary and social oppression, intricacies, obstacles. For the exemplary service rendered to the society CFHC was awarded with the best institution award from the State of TamilNadu in 2002 by then chief minister Late. Dr.J.Jayalalitha. What come may, She has firm faith that “The LORD will fulfil his purpose for me; your love, O Lord, endures forever do not abandon the works of your hands”

With hearts being filled with much gratitude to God we celebrate our 30+ years of service to children and women I greatly rejoices to commemorate the occasion. Operating an NGO successfully over the last 30 years – a tremendous achievement indeed!! CFHC has carried out its activities hand-in-hand with the poorest, the downtrodden and the most vulnerable sections of children and women through a number of development projects and action-oriented interventions at the grass-root levels to promote health, education and social empowerment. We feel fulfilled every time we look back on our 30-year journey.
